There is a TON of jargon in the programmatic advertising world. We’ve compiled this advertising glossary because sometimes you just need to know what a word (or acronym) means without digging around the internet.

CMP (Consent Management Platform)

A consent management platform (CMP) is a tool that helps website and app publishers obtain and manage consent from users for the use of cookies and other tracking technologies used in identity and behavioral targeting. These platforms allow users to control their data privacy preferences and give website operators a way to obtain and record consent in compliance with data protection laws like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In simple terms, a CMP is a tool that helps websites and apps get permission from users to collect and use their data, and keeps track of who has given that permission.

There are several major consent management platforms available, including:

  1. LiveRamp CMP: Allows websites and apps to obtain and manage user consent for the collection and use of personal data, which is especially useful for companies that want to be compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
  2. OneTrust: OneTrust is a popular CMP that offers a range of features including cookie consent management, privacy policy management, and data subject rights management.
  3. Cookiebot: Cookiebot is a CMP that specializes in cookie consent management, helping websites comply with laws like the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.
  4. TrustArc: TrustArc is a comprehensive data privacy management platform that offers a variety of features including consent management, data inventory management, and data subject rights management.
  5. CookiePro: CookiePro is a CMP that provides cookie consent management and cookie scanning features to help website operators comply with data protection laws.
  6. CIVIC: CIVIC is a CMP that helps organizations to comply with GDPR, CCPA and other data protection regulations. It also allows to manage cookies, trackers and create a custom cookie banner.
  7. Quantcast CMP: Quantcast is a CMP that provides a range of features including consent management, audience measurement and targeting, and data privacy management.
